This past week was one of so many dazzling Nigerian performances across the world with Kelechi Iheanacho, Paul Onuachu and Moses Simon the leading lights.
5.Victor Moses
The former Super Eagles star scored again to inspire Spartak Moscow to a big derby win over city rivals Dinamo Moscow. It was a fine strike which has kept Spartak within striking distance of leaders Zenit Saint Petersburg as the race for the Russian championship continues to gather steam.
4.Henry Onyekuru
Onyekuru has continued to prove he is truly at home in Turkey when he came off the bench to score twice for Galatasaray to win 3-0 at Kayeserispor and close in on Super Lig leaders Besiktas. He has now scored five goals since his arrival from Ligue 1 club AS Monaco, who he barely playing time. Hopefully, ‘Gala’ will get the cash to buy him on a permanent basis at the end of the season.
3.Moses Simon
FC Nantes finally got something to cheer in a very turbulent season with a famous shock win at champions PSG with their Nigeria star accounting for the winning goal. The win has handed ‘The Canaries’ a lifeline in their fight to escape relegation just a season after they even came close to qualifying for Europe. The win in Paris will most certainly give Moses Simon and his team the self-belief they could still be safe by season’s end.
2.Paul Onuachu
The giant Genk striker responded to his latest Super Eagles snub by firing his team to the Belgium Cup Final at the expense of hosts Anderlecht. He netted his 27th goal in all competitions this season and now it is just a matter of time before he heads out to one of the major leagues in Europe, Super Eagles call-up or not.
1.Kelechi Iheanacho
“Seniorman”, as he has jokingly been referred to by fellow Super Eagles star Wilfred Ndidi, is enjoying a very productive time at Leicester City with his hat-trick against Sheffield United to keep ‘The Foxes’ in the hunt for UEFA Champions League action next year. He has now scored for the very first time in his Premier League career for three straight games, joins an elite band of Nigeria stars to score a treble in the English top flight and was again Man of the Match. Certainly no longer a player to be shipped out on loan. He will do with such confidence going into AFCON qualifiers later this month as he also aims to his international career firing again.
