This past week, strikers Victor Osimhen, Gift Orban, Victor Boniface and Terem Moffi were truly cruising in Europe’s Elite club competitions – from the UEFA Champions League to the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Tella – Scoring goals for fun with Burnley

5.Nathan Tella

At a time his parent club Southampton are struggling to score goals in their survival race in the Premier League, Tella is having his most productive season in the English Championship on loan to table toppers Burnley. The 23-year-old forward with pace to burn scored his second hat-trick of the season for Burnley to see off Hull City. He has tallied 17 goals in the Championship as Burnley took another big step towards a return to the Premier League. They are now 13 points clear of closest rivals Sheffield United with nine rounds of matches to end of the campaign. When will he get his Super Eagles call-up?

4.Terem Moffi

He was Man of the Match with a goal and an assist for OGC Nice to beat Moldovan champions Sheriff 3-0 and qualify for the quarterfinal of the UEFA Europa Conference League. This was a quick reaction by the Super Eagles striker to an underwhelming individual display in the reverse tie a week earlier.

3.Victor Boniface

The big striker has again proved he can compete at the top level in Europe with another Man-of-the-Match performance against Bundesliga side Union Berlin in the UEFA Europa League. His club Union St.Gilloise dumped their German namesakes 3-0 at home with Boniface providing an assist and simply unplayable. This was a week after he scored twice and was named Europa League Player of the Week by UEFA in a thrilling 3-3 draw in Germany. Such is his confidence that he has backed his Belgian club to go all the way to the Final of Europe’s second-tier competition. Another Bundesliga club, Bayer Leverkusen, now stand between his club and a place in the semifinals.

Victor Boniface on the rampage

2.Gift Orban

The biggest sensation in Belgium underlined his class with a well-taken hat-trick for Gent to brush past Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir into the quarterfinal of the UEFA Europa Conference League. It was the fastest-ever hat-trick in a European club competition and he has now registered five goals in Europe. He followed up this by delivering an assist for Gent to beat AS Eupen 3-0 and topple reigning champions Club Brugge from the Top 4 in the Belgian league. The Top 4 clubs at the end of the regular season in Belgium will battle for the championship as well as tickets to the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.

1.Victor Osimhen

The Napoli superstar fired twice for his club to reach the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history courtesy of a 3-0 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt. He was named Man of the Match and his headed goal in that encounter was picked as the Champions League Goal of the Week. And five days later, he delivered another brace at Torino for Napoli to stay on track for a third Scudetto. He is the runaway leading scorer in Serie A with 21 goals to match the African record Samuel Eto’o has held since 2011 and he is just two goals behind the all-time African goals record in Serie A set by the legendary George Opong Weah. The Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau must be trembling now…
