It was yet another past week of excellent Nigerian performances across Europe – Paul Onuacbu and Chibuike Nwaiwu slayed defending champions Galatasaray, Frank Onyeka delivered for Premier League hopefuls Coventry City, while youngster Zadok Yohanna was bang on target on opening day of action in Sweden.

5. Zadok Yohanna
The youngster from Ikon Allah Academy in Kaduna announced his arrival on the big stage with the winning goal and a Man-of-the-match display for AIK to beat Halmstad 2-1 on the opening day of action in the Swedish top flight. It was a class act. A lot is expected of the left-footed winger this season with most experts predicting he will be sold for a record fee this summer to a club in one of Europe’s major leagues.
4.Kelechi Iheanacho
The almost forgotten Super Eagles forward came off the bench to score an important match winner for Celtic at Dundee United to keep them among the front runners in the Scottish Premier League. He showed he has not lost his scoring touch as he smashed home an inviting cross for the winning goal on the day. It was his first goal in seven months and it kept Celtic within striking distance of leaders Hearts and second-placed Rangers as the season draws to an exciting close.

3. Frank Onyeka
‘The Tank’ does not score many goals, but when he does, they are either special or of great significance. The hard working Super Eagles midfielder fired his first goal for Coventry City to go on to beat Derby County 3-2 to stay on course for a return to the Premier League. His curler was his first goal since April 2024 and it crowned an outstanding performance. Such is the huge impact he has made on loan – he has only lost once in the eight appearances for Coventry. His new club are now 11 points clear at the top of the English Championship with six rounds of matches to the end of the regular season. It will be great to see him feature more regularly in the Premier League next season with Coventry than he did recently with Brentford.
2. Chibuike Nwaiwu
The former Enyimba defender was the match winner for Trabzonspor to beat Super Lig leaders Galatasaray and throw wide open the title race in Turkey. It was a well-taken headed goal off a free kick by fellow Nigerian star Anthony Nwakaeme that beat the Turkey No 1 goalkeeper. It was his third Super Lig since he established himself at Trabzonspor since his arrival from Austria in January. This goal capped an eventful week during which he also made his Super Eagles debut against Iran.

1.Paul Onuachu
All eyes were on the towering striker when leaders Galatasaray came to town and he delivered his 22nd goal as well as his first-ever against the Istanbul giants. It was another headed goal- his ninth this season – and it set the tone for an important home victory for Trabzonspor. His club are now very much in the mix for the Turkish championship four years since they last won it and his goals will again play a crucial role should they upset the formbooks to be crowned champions again. It will be the crowning glory for a proven goal scorer.
