Nigeria stars – from Desire Oparanozie to Terem Moffi – are banging in the goals across Europe. They are truly flying the green-white-green flag high overseas.
The former Super Falcons captain scored three goals within days as DFCO Dijon get set for the new season in France. The striker scored a brace in the 2-1 win over Standard Liege on Saturday, before she was again on target in a 2-2 draw with fellow French campaigners Stade de Reims. Oparanozie has begun a new adventure at Dijon ahead of the new season after several years at another French club Guingamp. She has already shown great promise she will be the star at Dijon.
The Super Eagles winger was among the goals as FC Nantes beat Le Havre 3-1 in a final pre-season friendly ahead of the new Ligue 1 campaign, which begins this coming weekend. ‘The Canaries’ will again be looking up to their Player of the Season as they aim for a top spot in the league after they fell short in the previous campaign.
3. Stephen Odey
The former MFM FC star helped himself to a treble for a second-string KRC Genk side, who humiliated Differdange of Luxembourg in a friendly. The club from Luxembourg are preparing for the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Europa League. Odey has been left out of the Genk matchday squad for the first two games of the new season in Belgium, but on the strength of this performance he should have improved his chances of getting first-team football action soon.
The big striker grabbed his second goal of the new season as high-riding Bodo/Glimt won 2-1 at Sandefjord. His club are runaway leaders of the Norwegian top flight with 38 points from 14 matches, seven points clear of closest rivals and champions Molde. There will certainly more goals from the Flying Eagles striker as he continues to rack up game time after a long-term injury which sidelined him for almost entire part of last season.
The Young Bull inspired modest KV Kortrijk to a big win at KAA Gent with the opening goal in a 2-1 win. It was his club’s first win at Gent in six years. The striker again showed he can rise to the challenge as he opened his goals’ account with yet another superb finish. He has so far scored against some of the top teams in Belgium since his arrival in January – champions Club Brugge and Standard Liege. Next bring on KRC Genk and Anderlecht…
