This past week Nigeria stars again made history and goals across Europe’s top leagues.
5.Ike Ugbo
The Chelsea loanee finished the regular season in Belgium with 16 goals, which were crucial in Cercle Brugge avoiding relegation. It was a very productive campaign for the young striker and it will now be interesting if the modest Belgian club trigger off the buy-out clause of six million Euros with the help of owner club AS Monaco. Ugbo will most certainly not be without serious suitors in the coming weeks.
4.Terem Moffi
The young striker has continued to impress with his latest exploits being his brace at Olympique Marseille, a club who were interested in signing him last summer before he opted for FC Lorient also in Ligue 1. He has now netted 11 goals in his first season in a major European league and hopefully these goals will keep his club afloat in the French top flight. What if Lorient are relegated? They could probably sell him on to one of the big guns in France.
3.Paul Onuachu
The giant Genk hitman ended the regular season in Belgium just as he started it with goals. He recorded 29 goals to emerge as the third Nigeria star to finish as Goal King of Belgium after Tosin Dosunmu and Joseph Akpala. The big poser around him now is where will he take his goal-filled boots to next? Genk asking price is put at around 25 million Euros and you can be certain there will be many takers.
2.Samuel Chukwueze
Just when you think the game of ‘Samu’ has stagnated, he comes up with two beauties against Levante. He has now matched the three goals he scored in La Liga last season and his club Villarreal CF are back in the top bracket and two matches away from the UEFA Europa League Final. Who stand in their way to the Final? Arsenal, the team he came close to signing for before he eventually found his way to Spain and Villarreal.
1.Kelechi Iheanacho
Leicester City are back to the FA Cup Final for the first time since 1969 and they owe this feat to their Super Eagles striker, whose strike was enough to put aside hard-fighting Southampton in the semifinal Sunday. ‘Seniorman Kels’ has now scored four goals in the FA Cup this season and he has 15 goals in all competitions. ‘The Foxes’ have lost all seven meetings with fellow Cup Finalists Chelsea in the cup competition. But will their Nigerian talisman prove to be the big difference again? Don’t bet against it.
