In the week when he was one of 10 top players to be shortlisted by CAF for the African Footballer of the Year for 2024, Ademola Lookman was simply majestic with a telling Man-of-the-Match performance for Atalanta BC to sweep aside Verona in the Italian Serie A.
5.Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi
The former Flying Eagles striker finally opened his goals account in Belgium with a first-half brace for OH Leuven to win at Sporting Charleroi. It has taken him 11 appearances to score his first goals, but there will be many more from those boots. The Italian Serie A was most probably a big mountain for the 23-year-old striker after his transfer from Slovenia. The Belgian Jupiler Pro League will bring out the best in the centre-forward and smoothen his rough edges. He has the tools to succeed in Belgium – a physical presence, power, speed and a decent shot. His modest club OH Leuven are now 11th in the standings with 15 points from 12 matches.

4.Tolu Arokodare
The striker must have enhanced his stocks with Super Eagles scouts on the back of his eighth goal of the season with Belgian league leaders Genk. It was the opening goal that inspired Genk to win 2-0 at Gent. He is joint leading scorer in the Belgian league and his club continue to sit proudly at the summit of the championship, five points clear of their nearest rivals after a dozen matches.
3.Alex Iwobi
The Super Eagles forward returned to Goodison Park to haunt former club Everton by putting Fulham ahead in a Premier League game. His clever strike was his second goal of the season and it halted a two-match losing run by his London club. He also admitted it was “bitter-sweet” to score for the last time at Goodison Park as Everton will move their home ground next season.
2.Victor Boniface
The striker got back to the business of scoring goals after he cheated death a week ago in a ghastly car crash. He netted his sixth Bundesliga goal this season to prove that his goals last season were not a fluke. However, defending champions Bayer Leverkusen are now five points adrift of table toppers Bayern Munich after they surrendered their lead twice at Werder Bremen.
1.Ademola Lookman
‘Mola’ was simply unplayable on the night as Atalanta smashed past Verona 6-1 with the Super Eagles striker grabbing a brace as well as two assists. His awesome performance came in a week he was nominated by CAF for the 2024 African Footballer of the Year Award. He is the overwhelming favourite to succeed compatriot Victor Osimhen as King of African Football and little wonder his majestic showing against Verona. He has now scored four goals in Serie A after a slow start to the new season. His club are now fifth in the standings with 16 points from nine matches, six points behind leaders Napoli.
