This past year was most unforgettable for Zaidu Sanusi – a dream transfer to champions FC Porto after a solid showing at unfashionable Santa Clara, UEFA Champions League debut and goal as well as Super Eagles debut.
The 23-year-old leftback will be Nigeria football biggest revelation of 2020.
But his career in Portugal had actually started on a wrong foot when he signed for Gil Vicente in January 2017 and a long-term injury led the termination of his contract.
He will eventually shuttle between Aves and Mirandela in the Portuguese lower leagues, before he again got a lifeline in the summer of 2019 with a transfer to Santa Clara.
In his first and only season at Santa Clara, he made 24 appearances and scored a goal to attract a 4.5 million Euros to champions Porto.
He has so far played 11 matches, nine starts and two as sub, and scored a goal for Porto.
He also made his UEFA Champions League debut at Manchester City and will go on to score his first goal in the competition at Olympique Marseille.
In October, he made a solid Super Eagles debut against African champions Algeria and he is expected to become the mainstay of the national team in what promises to be a very busy year.
