Looking back now, the striker was a bargain buy for Leverkusen at over 21 Million Euros from Belgian club Union St.Gilloise.
His Transfermarkt valuation has now shot up to 40 Million Euros to underline the huge progress he has achieved within a short time.
The 23-year-old striker scored 15 goals and made nine assists in 23 appearances as Leverkusen won the Bundesliga for the very first time in their history.
He scored 21 goals and made 10 assists in 31 appearances in all competitions.
They also achieved this feat by becoming the first team to crowned champions undefeated.
The club also completed the league and cup double when they beat Kaiserslautern in the German Cup final.
However, ‘Boni’ and his German machine were outclassed in the final of the UEFA Europa Cup 3-0.
On a personal note, the striker was named the Bundesliga Rookie of the Year after he scooped four straight monthly awards.
He was also named in the Bundesliga Team of the season.
All these accomplishments were against the backdrop that he suffered an abductor injury in the Super Eagles training camp that needed surgery and sidelined him for four months.
It was also the injury that kept him out of the 2023 AFCON.
He has yet to establish himself in the Super Eagles since he made his long-awaited debut on September 10, 2023.
He has six caps thus far.
But the indices are encouraging that free of injury and fitness concerns he will play a big role for the national team in the coming years.
