Tyronne Ebuehi’s very promising career has finally got back on track with FC Twente after an injury-ravaged time at Portuguese giants Benfica.
Last season, the 25-year-old defender made a total of 34 appearances in all competitions even scoring a goal.
It is on account of this heart-warming performance that Dutch club FC Twente will now hope to convert his loan deal to a permanent one.
“I am happy to be in shape again. Twente gave me the opportunity to show that the last two years were just bad luck and I want to take advantage of it,” celebrated Ebuehi, who has also been recalled to the Super Eagles.
The previous season, the classy right back had only managed 13 games mainly for Benfica second team in the U23 league and the second division.
This was after a long-term knee injury had kept him out in his first season at Benfica.
He recalled then that he even feared his career had ended prematurely.
“I wondered if ‘this would be the end’?” he admitted.
“Questions like that can arise from time to time. We often hear that, with this type of injury, players they never return to the same level they had before the injury.
“The injury changed me a lot, not only as a player, but also as a person.
“It was very difficult. Being injured and away from the only country I knew [Holland], away from family and friends. I felt alone knowing that they were not they could come to me easily if they wanted to.”
