This past season was a watershed one for Paul Omo Mukairu as he more than held his own at Belgian giants Anderlecht on loan from Turkish club Antalyaspor.
The 21-year-old winger made 25 appearances in the league, netting four goals and providing four assists in all competitions as Anderlecht reached the championship playoffs for the first time in a long time and also got as far as the semifinals of the cup.
A stunning debut saw him grab a historic match winner against Antwerp as he went on to establish himself in the Anderlecht first-team squad.
However, a change of formation by coach Vincent Kompany where midfielders were preferred to wingers will late in the season limit his first-team appearances.
He was Man of the Match against FC Liege when he scored and provided an assist in a cup tie.
“We still have to work on his efficiency, his finishing”, Kompany told Het Laatste Nieuws.
“That is the only thing Paul is missing to become an important player in Belgium.”
His transfer market value has now shot up to two Million Euros on account of an encouraging showing in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.
Anderlecht have the first right of refusal to sign him on a permanent basis from Antalyaspor, but even if they did not, he has done enough to attract interests from across mainland Europe having impressed on one of the biggest shop windows.
He showed this past term to have the potential and on the proper platform he will go on to make good the huge promise he holds.
Incidentally, he was also the No 18 entry in the SCORENigeria TOP 30 edition in January.
