SCORENigeria will be backing Belgium to go all the way at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the absence of the Super Eagles.
SCORENigeria will therefore highlight major news around Belgium in Qatar.
The Nigeria’s national football team were once nicknamed ‘Red Devils’, the name fans now call Belgium.
Nigeria owe Belgium in part for their dominance in Africa in the 90s as well as qualification for their first-ever World Cup in 1994 as the European country was home for several top stars led by skipper Stephen Keshi.
Victor Ikpeba, Sunday Oliseh, Augustine Eguavoen and Chidi Nwanu first made their names in Belgium.
In recent years, the Belgian league proved to be the springboard for current Super Eagles stars like Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Terem Moffi to move to bigger leagues, while Paul Onuachu and Alhassan Yusuf are still flying the green-white-green flag high in that country.
The Red Devils of Belgium reached the semifinal of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but their “Golden Generation” has yet to lift them to a major trophy.
They boast some top stars like Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City), Youri Tielemans (Leicester City), Thibaut Courtois, Eden Hazard (Real Madrid) and are in Group F along with 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia, Canada and Morocco.
They are sweating over the fitness of star striker Romelu Lukaku.
They open their campaign Wednesday against debutants Canada.
