Saviour Godwin has said he is very excited to be picked as the MVP of the Portuguese top league for the months of August and September.

He was voted top star of the Primeira Liga with 16.29% of the votes, followed by João Mário (Benfica) with 13.01%, and Ricardo Horta (SC Braga), who recorded 12.82%.

With a start to the season above all expectations, in which Casa Pia added five wins, two draws and one defeat in the Primeira Liga, Saviour received his award from Joaquim Evangelista, president of the players’ union, at Pina Manique Stadium in Lisbon, in the presence of Casa Pia coach, Filipe Martins.

The former Golden Eaglets star said the award was as a result of the collective work of Casa Pia.

“I am very excited to win this award, thanks to the team effort,” he credited.

“This is not just for me, the team helped me to win this award and I feel very happy.”

The forward, who recently made his Super Eagles debut, said he is always driven to score goals.

“I don’t set a specific goal for myself. I want to score in every game,” he revealed.

The First League’s Best Player of the month is found through the average value of the scores given by the three sports dailies – A Bola, O Jogo and Record – in the period corresponding to the voting (final weighting of 60%) and the choices of an appointed Technical Commission by the Union, formed by former players Anselmo, João Oliveira Pinto, João Paulo, José Carlos, Rebelo, Tiago Pereira and Tozé (final weighting of 40%).
