Midfielder Samson Lawal has opted to embark on a professional career in Germany than to feature at next month’s U20 AFCON in Egypt, officials told SCORENigeria
A team official told SCORENigeria that Lawal had the option to submit his international passport for Moroccan and Egyptian passports or apply for his work visa with the German embassy.
After consultations with his UK-based agent, he opted for the German embassy.
Former Katsina United star Lawal caught the eye at the U20 AFCON qualifiers in May 2022 in Niger Republic.
The creativity of the stocky attacking midfielder was evident in both the semifinal and final of the WAFU B qualifiers.
He has since been in Europe on trials before he returned to be part of the latest Flying Eagles training camp in Abuja.
The emergence of Jonathan Nicholas has dropped Lawal down the pecking order of the team and he was not guaranteed regular game time at the U20 AFCON.
