Sadiq Umar has admitted he is “sad, disappointed” he cannot honour his first-ever Super Eagles call-up after his Spanish club UD Almeria announced he has been stopped from being part of the AFCON qualifiers as travel restrictions on account of the Coronavirus Pandemic could cause him to miss as many as five league matches.
Sadiq has been rewarded by coach Gernot Rohr with his first-ever Eagles invite on the back of a haul of goals that have lifted Almeria to automatic promotion bracket back to La Liga.
“I am sad and disappointed,” the striker lamented.
“I fought all I could to be part of the qualifiers.
“I know how much it means for me to be part of the national team.”
The travel restrictions as a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic have already stopped Moses Simon from French Ligue 1 club to withdraw from the Eagles squad.
This is amid growing fears that more players will also be forced out of the qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho later this month.
