Gernot Rohr only needs Nigeria to boost his profile as a coach and it was a misnomer in the first place to hire a coach whose track record was that he previously handled Burkina Faso and Niger.
The Super Eagles job has overwhelmed Gernot Rohr.
It was an experiment that never worked and a huge waste of scarce resources – 18 million Naira monthly.
We need to move on by looking inwards.
Rohr is credited to have assembled a group of talented young players which any coach can do of course. These players are Nigerians whose parents migrated to Europe 20-25 years ago.
Where is the player he has discovered in our domestic league since 2016?
Qualifying Nigeria for the World Cup or AFCON is no longer an achievement.
Nigeria narrowly missed qualification for the World Cup in 1978 and 1982 and have been consistent on the global stage since their long-awaited debut in 1994 in USA.
Curiously with all the controversies surrounding Gernot Rohr’s contract renewal, he has been non- committal on his targets.
He said, “I want to go to the World Cup and AFCON”.
To do what?
What is Rohr’s personal target?
An ambitious coach will tell you I want to win the AFCON and get to the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
Coach Rohr was quoted as saying further, “I don’t need more money in my contract, I just want to work.”
To achieve what?
To take us to the World Cup and exit at the group stage again? Or to play for bronze again at the AFCON?
No good coach with options will be happy to remain on the same salary for six, eight years.
A responsible federation will have to rethink a renewal of the contract of a grossly incompetent coach like Gernot Rohr.

@HARRISON JALLA what have you accomplished in your whole entire life, what have you contributed to the growth of football ball in the country? You always spit out senseless statements that are devoid of facts and full of stupid sentiments. Rhor has done a fantastic job with the Eagles and ideots like you should stay away from him and let him do his job.

I am an Egyptian, I love the Nigeria national team — I hope that the Nigerian national team contracts with the Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira or Ramón Díaz or Christian Gross
