Gernot Rohr has ruled out Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi starting today’s game against the Central African Republic, insisting that would be a gift as the Super Eagles have only trained twice before the game.
Rohr therefore said he will stick with his strike force of Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho, while hoping Awoniyi could still make his Eagles debut coming from the bench.
“It will be a gift to start Awoniyi after we only trained for two days,” Rohr said.
“I have my strikers, (Victor) Osimhen and Kelechi (Iheanacho).
“But Awoniyi can come to finish the game and sometimes it is even more crucial for you to end the game than to start.”
Meanwhile, kick-off time for today’s clash is 5pm.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have approved for 5,000 fans to watch the game at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
