Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has praised his team Benin for coming back from a goal down to beat Nigeria 2-1 in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in Abidjan.
The Cheetahs of Benin are now top of the qualifying group with seven points from four matches.
“It was a great game for us, this was the first time our ‘A’ team will beat the Super Eagles,” he chimed.
“It was difficult when we conceded the first goal, but the reaction was great and my young players did very well. I am happy for them.
“Their fighting spirit and organisation gave us our victory.”
He said he is excited that young players are coming through to his team after he brought down the average age of the team from 29 years to 24 years.
