Would Victor Osimhen still have been the one of the most sought after strikers in the world today had Norwegian club Brann accepted to take him on loan from Wolfsburg in 2018?
It has now been revealed that Wolfsburg had offered the Napoli striker to Brann, when his career stalled in Germany.
Football agent Stig Lillejord said he was involved in that discussion as he recommended the young striker then to Brann.
“I had a dialogue with the sporting director in Wolfsburg. They had bought him after the U17 World Cup in 2015, after competition with Arsenal. He had a way to go then, so they wanted to loan him out,” he recalled.
“I recommended him to Brann and other Norwegian clubs, but Brann replied too late. Osimhen instead went to Charleroi in Belgium.”
Sporting manager of Brann Rune Soltvedt at that time said he could not recall this possibility.
“I can’t remember this. We were offered quite a few players by various agents during my time at Brann,” he said.
That season, Brann finished strongly in the Eliteserien and was only six points behind league champions Rosenborg at the end of the season.
Osimhen eventually moved on loan to Belgian club Sporting Charleroi and as they say, the rest is now history.
