At the grand old age of 44, Kano Pillars veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali is just too old to play for the CHAN Eagles six years after he last did so, according to former Super Eagles star Victor Ikpeba.
Rabiu Ali ‘Pele’ is currently in the CHAN Eagles training camp in Ikenne having scored eight goals in 13 appearances for Kano Pillars this season.
He featured at the 2014 and 2018 CHAN tournaments and on both occasions Nigeria finished in podium place.
However, Ikpeba has now said he is disappointed that the country’s home-based team have recalled him for a crucial final playoff for the 2025 CHAN later this month.
“I won’t call him if I were the manager,” Ikpeba dismissed on Monday Night Football on SuperSport TV
“His invitation saddens me.
“He’s too old to be in the CHAN team.
“Does he still have the legs at 44?”
Ikpeba also dismissed the NPFL top teams for not featuring young players.
“Enyimba and Remo Stars are local champions, who have failed to match the North African clubs,” he said.
“They must up their game and integrate young players at their clubs.
“This is why the academies are thriving and not players from the NPFL.”
