Promise David may no longer be popular with Super Eagles fans after he chose to play for Canada, but he has now emerged as one of the stars of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.

When Promise David made his debut for Union Saint-Gilloise last summer, his football even managed to make people laugh.
In the meantime, the Canadian, born to Nigerian parents, may well be the weapon in the Brussels team’s fervent title bids. The promise has fully blossomed, as his figures in 2025 show.
Big and strong, that’s for sure, but also often clumsy and tactically unskilled. During his first matches for Union, that was pretty much the analysis of David.
However, the club have been working hard on that. The progression that the striker has made in the meantime is remarkable. Apart from his added value during the game, his impressive statistics underline that evolution. Since the top match won against KRC Genk (1-2), David has rounded the cape of 20 goals.
The counter now stands at 21 in total: 16 in the Jupiler Pro League, another four in the cup and also one in the UEFA Europa League match against Ajax.
With that number he is now equal with Tolu Arokodare of Genk.
The distribution of those goals makes his development visible, because 11 of his 16 league goals fell after New Year. And the opposition is warned, because in this Champions’ Play-Off David seems simply unstoppable. So far he has scored in every match. Against Royal Antwerp FC, KAA Gent and RSC Anderlecht he scored once. Against Genk the Canadian scored two.
Club Brugge have already been warned, because this week both top clubs will face each other twice in three days.
Can Brandon Mechele and co stop this David?
