Plateau United tonight crashed out of this year’s CAF Champions League rather controversially at Esperance of Tunisia, who made the most of a dubious late penalty to advance to the group stage of the competition on the away goals’ rule.
Plateau United, who finished runners-up in last season’s NPFL, were barely hanging on till the referee gifted home team Esperance a penalty as television replays showed the foul against their player was committed outside the box.
Plateau won the first leg 2-1 in Abuja last week, but go out of the Champions League on the away goals’ rule.
The Jos club will continue on the continent when they playoff for a place in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
