SCORENigeria can specially report that at halftime in yesterday’s 2019 AFCON semifinal between the Super Eagles and Algeria, NFF president and CAF 1st vice-president Amaju Pinnick sought a meeting with CAF boss Ahmad Ahmad to iron out their differences.
Pinnick was accompanied to the truce meeting by presidents of two West African football federations, it was further learnt.
Another peace meeting between the two men was in Dakar, Senegal, earlier this year with FIFA president Gianni Infantino in the middle.
There has been a “cold war” between the two top officials and this frosty relationship has been evident at the AFCON in Egypt.
On Sunday, SCORENigeria reported that CAF have distanced themselves from a claim by the Pinnick-led Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that they spent a whooping $565,473 (more than 198 million Naira) to attend a CAF congress in 2015.
CAF said rather than receive money from member-associations for such events like a congress, they bear the expenses of delegates.
Pinnick has on several occasions not hidden his ambition to be CAF president even after he was appointed by Ahmad Ahmad as 1st vice-president in place of banned Kwesi Nyankakyi of Ghana.
The CAF executive committee will meet tomorrow morning in Cairo ahead of the General Assembly on Thursday.
