Kano-born Alhassan Yusuf made history by scooping his first championship winners’ medal as well as the Cup in Belgium with Antwerp.
The former FC Hearts star had declared that his club ought to be champions the previous season, but finished a disappointing fourth.
In April, Antwerp beat KV Mechelen 2-0 to win their first major trophy of the season.
Thereafter, it was a most dramatic end to the season in Belgium before Antwerp finally got their hands on the trophy for the first time in 66 years.
The 22-year-old midfielder, who won the Swedish Cup with IFK Goteborg in the 2019/2020, made 27 appearances – 17 starts – for the newly crowned champions of Belgium.
He was named Antwerp Player of the Month for August, when Antwerp were a long winning run, but rather strangely he was not considered good enough for the Super Eagles.
However, his season was marred by an ankle injury that kept him for several months.
He will celebrate his league and cup double by marrying his lovely sweet heart in Kano this month.
