Coach Jose Peseiro has said the Super Eagles are ready to take on any team in the AFCON Round of 16 after they finished as runners-up in Group A.
Nigeria pipped Guinea Bissau 1-0 to finish runners-up behind Equatorial Guinea, who also recorded seven points but enjoyed a better goals’ difference.
The Super Eagles will Saturday night in Abidjan face the runners-up in Group C, who could be either Guinea or Cameroon, for a place in the last eight of the AFCON.
However, Peseiro said he does not have any preference.
“We’re ready for meet any team,” he said in a post-match interview.
He said he would have been happier had his team won Group A to meet one of the third best losers in the knockout round.
“I am not 100% happy because we deserved to finish top of the group,” he said.
“We deserved to beat Equatorial Guinea and then we would have had nine points.
“But tt was not an easy match (vs Guinea Bissau). The other team tried to get their first victory in the competition.
“We created the chances to win by more than a goal.”
The coach said the injury that ruled out stand-in captain William Ekong from the final group game against Guinea Bissau is not serious.
“It’s a small injury, not big injury,” he assured.
