NFF president Amaju Pinnick has defended the unimpressive track record of Jose Peseiro, one of the coaches in top reckoning to head the Super Eagles.
“Peseiro is a top, top coach,” Pinnick said at a press briefing.
The former Venezuela coach, who has worked with the legendary Jose Mourinho, is one of three coaches the NFF have spoken with for the Eagles top post.
The other coaches are another Portuguese coach Jose Morais and the Serbian Mladen Krstajic, who has since been hired by Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The new coach will be picked based on how he will enforce team discipline as how hungry he is to succeed.
Pinnick said next week the NFF technical committee will announce their choice of a new foreign coach after which the executive committee will be expected to ratify the appointment.
In the meantime, it is expected that the Federal Government will pay the new coach, unlike the previous arrangement where a sponsor footed this bill leading to former coach Gernot Rohr being owed for several months.
