Coach Jose Peseiro has demanded the Super Eagles put away the chances they create at the 2023 AFCON and also manage their energy under the harsh weather conditions in Cote d’Ivoire.
The star-studded Super Eagles could only force lowly ranked Equatorial Guinea to a 1-1 draw in their opening AFCON Group A match Sunday.
Napoli striker and CAF Player of the Year Victor Osimhen failed to finish off at least three begging chances on the day.
Peseiro said his team deserved to have won the game.
“We deserved to win this game because we created many chances,” he said.
“We therefore need to improve on our finishing.”
He also said the Super Eagles will have to manage their energy under the hot and humid conditions they play in Cote d’Ivoire.
“It’s not easy to play under these conditions,” he admitted.
“We couldn’t press as we should because of the heat.
“We need to manage our energy.”
The Super Eagles will Thursday evening play their second Group A against host nation Cote d’Ivoire, who top the first round section after a 2-0 win over Guinea Bissau at the weekend.
