Pep Guardiola’s right-hand man for many years, Domenec Torrent, has turned down the chance to lead the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in favour of the Super Eagles.
Torrent, who was assistant coach to Pep at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City, has applied for the Super Eagles top post.
A top representative of Torrent told SCORENigeria: “Cameroon made Torrent a good offer, but we believe Nigeria is best for him.
“He has worked at some of the biggest clubs around the world and now is a good time for him to work with a national team.
“Africa has amazing potentials and we’re very confident he will do a fantastic job with the Super Eagles.”
The 61-year-old Torrent, who speaks English fluently, boasts of one of the most outstanding track records of the coaches who have applied to lead the Super Eagles.
Besides his many successes as Pep’s trusted assistant across Europe, he has also been head of various Spanish clubs as well as New York City in the MLS, Flamengo of Brazil and Galatasaray in Turkey.
He won 14 trophies, which include two UEFA Champions League and three La Liga championships, between 2007 and 2012 as Pep’s assistant at Barcelona.
He won seven major trophies in Germany with Bayern Munich, including three Bundesliga titles, between 2012 and 2016.
In Manchester City, he also won the Premier League during his time there between 2016 and 2018.
NFF cannot hire Pep’s number two man as coach. They won’t have the funds to pay him.
The Super Eagles need a quality coach to take them to a top position in the soccer world. That is one of their limiting factors.
That we are still struggling to be one of the best in the continent is a big shame. The NFF should source the funds to hire and pay a top quality for the Super Eagles.
Westerhof was not a quality coach but he took Nigeria to the world cup and made such an impact that FIFA rated the Super Eagles number five in the world. Since then, we have retogressed.
We have above average players playing in various soccer leagues in the world. With a quality coach, Nigeria will rise from being counted as one of the continent’s best to one of the world’s favorites.
you are just busy contradicting yourself. Read the story well before you comment.
The agent has said his man is affordable n the nff have placed an 80k monthtl salary ceiling which is public knowledge and the torrent gu is still advertising himself. Why won’t the NFF be able to afford him?
You insist on the nff hiring a top class coach as the only way forward. Meanwhile you are using Westerhof who you said was not a qulaity coach but was able to take the super eagles really high to buttress your point as to why we must go for a top qualitt coach.

So sad, a scab of a coach snobs Cameroon for Nigerria and it’s a thing to jubilate?
He was a disaster in Galatasaray. Won nothing after leaving Pep even although coaching established traditional teams that always chase titles (Flamengo, Galatasaray). Nothing for Nigerians to jubilate about.
