Philip Otele, who made the Super Eagles provisional squad for the 2025 AFCON, has moved on loan to German Bundesliga club SV Hamburg from FC Basel of Switzerland until the end of the season with an option to make the deal permanent.
FC Basel announced the transfer on Deadline Day.
The Swiss side reported that originally the 26-year-old winger could only leave on a permanent transfer, but eventually gave in to the explicit wish of the player to move to the Bundesliga.
It is a 1.5 million euros loan fee with a 4.5 million euros for option to buy permanently.
Hamburg will pay his salaries and Basel will retain a 10% sell-on in the event he is bought and later sold by the German club.
They are 13th in the Bundesliga standings with 29 points from as many matches.
