The raging debate in Italy now is whether Victor Osimhen stays put at Napoli or be sold this summer as many have expected.
At midnight Monday, Osimhen’s loan deal to Galatasaray ended and he has returned officially to Napoli.
He will now report back for pre-season training on July 15 should he not find a new club before that time.
Former Napoli defender Marco Zamboni said Osimhen is still valuable in football terms for the Serie A champions.
“It would be right to take him to training camp, he’s a great player,” Zamboni said.
“On a situation like this you have to understand the clear will of the player.
“He’s a player who will be useful to any team and everyone knows it.”
“He’s an important player, he did well in Turkey and it is strange that there are no top clubs willing to take him,” added coach Carmine Gautieri.
“Napoli, if they do not sell him, could also think about keeping him.
“He should be sold, I hope he finds a market, but if he were to stay, everybody would be happy.”
However, many others are opposed to him playing again for Napoli and would rather that he moves on.
Ex-Napoli striker Stefan Schwoch said Osimhen is not in the plans of coach Antonio Conte.
“There is no chance Osimhen will stay,” he said.
“He doesn’t want to stay and then he has been offered 40 Million Euros salary.
“Conte will hardly go back on his decisions, he has never considered him part of the Napoli squad, he knows Osimhen’s situation very well. The coach will not change his choices.”
Journalist Mario Fabbroni said Osimhen is the problem of Napoli transfer market.
“My hope is that there’s a ray of light in Osimhen’s brain. He’s the real problem of Napoli market.
“Osimhen is playing tricks on Napoli, this situation is also a trick on Napoli. The teams are asking for a lot when Napoli come (for their players).”
Another Italian journalist Mario Zaccaria added: “Napoli must solve the Osimhen problem, he’s worrying everyone.
“The first problem is to understand what is in Osimhen’s head. I don’t understand what he wants to do.”
