Victor Osimhen shone like a million stars for the Super Eagles to brush past Algeria 2-0 tonight in Marrakech and head into the semifinal of 2025 AFCON.

The Galatasaray striker scored a goal and provided an assist in another dominant display by Nigeria to set up an interesting semifinal against hosts Morocco Wednesday in Rabat.
After a scoreless first half, Nigeria deservedly took the lead in the 47th minute, when Osimhen powered home a superb cross from the left by fullback Bruno Onyemaechi.
It was his fourth goal of the tournament and he is now just two goals shy of matching the all-time goals record set by the legendary Rashidi Yekini.
Ten minutes later, Osimhen turned provider when he selflessly set up up Jerome Akor to score his second goal of this AFCON as he dribbled past Algeria goalkeeper Luca Zidane to slot home into an empty net.
Akor was unlucky not to get his brace when in the 82nd minute he saw his header from inside the 18-yard box come off the post.
The Sevilla striker fluffed the biggest chance of the first half when he failed to capitalise on a defensive mistake by the Algerians and saw his effort miss target narrowly.
On the half hour, Calvin Bassey’s effort was cleared off the goalline by an Algerian defender and it needed VAR to determine that the whole ball had not crossed the line.
Nigeria dominated with 68% of the ball possession and also their high pressing ensured Algeria could not build up from the defence.
