The Super Eagles will now have to win their all-important 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin early next without midfielder Raphael Onyedika after he was injured in action for his Belgian club.
Onyedika is now expected to be sidelined for a few weeks after he was forced out of a 5-5 draw with Westerlo Tuesday night.
Onyedika’s knee buckled without contact and he immediately grabbed his hamstring.
Although he was able to leave the field on his own, the injury doesn’t bode well.
“They’ll be without him for a few weeks, I’m afraid. You see the grimace on his face, and you know what’s going on. As a player, you know immediately when it’s not a regular strain,” Timmy Simons analyzed on DAZN.
It’s a heavy blow for Club Brugge as Onyedika has once again become one of Nicky Hayen’s most important players in recent weeks.
His absence threatens to severely disrupt the balance in midfield, just as the Belgian team continue their busy European campaign.
