Last season’s Goal King Paul Onuachu failed to score as champions Club Brugge beat cup winners Genk 3-2 to win the Belgium Super Cup.
Onuachu, who is expected to soon make a transfer to a major league after his goals last season, started the game, but he was replaced by fellow Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers after 46 minutes.
David Okereke, whose future at Club Brugge is unclear, was an unused sub.
The new season in Belgium will kick off on Friday.
