Ogenyi Onazi first rose to national prominence playing at the 2009 FIFA U17 World Cup, but it may not have happened had “Man of God” TB Joshua not prayed for him after he had been axed by the Golden Eaglets.

The player, who has since gone on to captain the Super Eagles and be part of two World Cups, himself revealed to SCORENigeria how he was recalled to the Eaglets.
“I did not make the open screening of the Golden Eaglets and thereafter I joined a friend to go to Lagos for TB Joshua to pray for me,” he recounted.
“He prayed for me and I joined his team My People’s FC, who later played in a tournament in Sweden where we did well and I was recalled to the Golden Eaglets by the new coach of the team (John Obuh).”
The rest is history as they say as Onazi featured at the 2009 U17 World Cup, where hosts Nigeria lost in the final to Switzerland in Abuja.
The ex-Lazio midfielder later played for the Flying Eagles before he won 52 caps with the Super Eagles, winning the 2013 AFCON in South Africa and making the squad for the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
