Kenneth Omeruo has told SCORENigeria he is relieved CD Leganes managed to get their first point of the new La Liga season at Valencia after losing their first four matches.
Omeruo was on from the start to finish of the match, while Chidozie Awaziem came off the bench to replace Aitor Ruibal in the 57th minute to help end a four-game losing run at Mestalla.
“It would have been nice if we had won, but that didn’t happen. It’s also nice we didn’t lose,” said the defender, who in the summer signed a five-year permanent deal with the Madrid club.
“We had a great game against a formidable opponent.
“A late chance would have sealed the game, but we got a point which is better than losing the match altogether.
“Valencia are a great team no doubt, but we were able to contain them.”
Valencia took the lead when Daniel Parejo slammed home a penalty in the 21st minute after Rodrigo was fouled by Ruben Perez.
Leganes leveled in the 35th minute, when Oscar Rodriguez struck from a free kick for his side to avoid a defeat for the first time this season.
Leganes remain rock bottom of La Liga with a point from five matches.
