Experienced Kenneth Omeruo will captain the Super Eagles against Guinea Bissau in Nigeria’s 100th match at the AFCON.
He is a direct replacement for stand-in skipper William Ekong, who is carrying a knock, and the most senior player who will start today’s decisive clash.
Omeruo was an unused sub in the opening game versus Equatorial Guinea before he saw the last 10 minutes action against Cote d’Ivoire as the Super Eagles defended their goal.
The 30-year-old central defender of Turkish club Kasimpasa and Ahmed Musa are the two survivors from 11 years ago when Nigeria last won this competition in Johannesburg, South Africa.
He has 61 caps and a goal for the Super Eagles.
Omeruo has been one of the most durable Nigeria internationals since his Super Eagles debut vs Cape Verde in January 2013.
The Abuja-born defender famously consigned captain Joseph Yobo to the bench as the Super Eagles flew all the way to AFCON glory 11 years ago.
He has been capped by the Golden Eaglets as well as the Flying Eagles.
