Former Super Eagles coach and captain Sunday Oliseh has picked holes with how the NFF have asked for applications for the vacant position of head coach of the country’s football team, while stating clearly he did not apply for the post.
According to Oliseh, so many things are wrong with the recruitment process for the Super Eagles job.
“Let’s look at it this way, when Jurgen Klopp came out last month to announce that he was leaving his position as coach of Liverpool, did you hear or read anywhere that the club announced that coaches should apply for the job?,” he told The Punch.
“The only thing they (Liverpool) are doing currently is that they are in search of a coach that fits their philosophy and style.
“If we (Nigeria) cannot offer our indigenous coaches opportunities to help the country’s football, then who else will?”
He said that as such he did not apply for his former post.
“I did not apply for the Eagles job, reports that stated so are false,” he stated.
“I only stated that if Nigeria needed my help as a coach I would be willing to help if the conditions are right. I’m open to helping Nigeria but I did not apply for the job.”
Oliseh also put his weight behind indigenous coaches like Emmanuel Amuneke and Finidi George to head the Super Eagles.
“Everyone knows I’m an advocate of an indigenous coach to lead the Eagles, those two (Amuneke and Finidi) are good for the job,” he said.
“Anybody who really understands football will know that the Eagles don’t need a foreign coach, but the indigenous coach must have a great personality.
“I’m against foreign coach for our national team. It was a local coach that won the AFCON for Ivory Coast and the previous one for Senegal.”

Oliseh knows nothing about coaching a team.He failed severally in Belgium lower league. He and his other advocate for hiring an indigenous coach benefited from been coach abroad and that’s what got them to where they are today .
NFF should be very careful about hiring a coach because some of these so-called local coaches are very tribalistic. Yes, the late Stephen Keshi won our last Afcon but he also dragged Nigeria to the lowest point of Fifa ranking, very much unlike Westeholf who won Afcon for us and took Nigeria to the highest Fifa ranking ever for an African team .So its clear that Westerholf winning Afcon wasn’t by mistake.
And he did great coaching a Dutch side immediately after he left Super Eagles.
A man who FIFA regularly picks as part of it’s strong technical analytics team in the World Cup, which includes Mr. Arsene Wenger and Klinsmann, is not on FIFA books because they are looking for a black man to show undue favour.
A local coach leading the Eagles would have been the best. But in our own situation, Oliseh, Amuneke and Finidi are either mediocre or lazy bunch of coaches. What are they doing presently to show that they deserve the job? South Africa’s Benny MaCarthy is pushing all boundaries to understudy world class coaches when he does not have an contract yet. Pitso is busy making a difference all around the globe. Those are indigenous coaches who has ambition. But our so called indigenous coaches are lazying around doing nothing, waiting for National teams job to fall on their laps. What is Amuneke doing for almost two years? What is Oliseh doing for the past 5 years? We have seen how incompetent Finidi is. He played a friendly match and made only one substitution (VM is not counted because Finidi injured him by playing him as a top striker). These guys are extremely lazy and entitled. None of the present indigenous coaches can take the eagles anywhere. Siasia is the only one who has a case for not developing himself presently due to FIFA ban and he is not available at the moment. Oliseh, Amuneke, Yusuf (a thief), Finidi (with the level of incompetence he has just shown) and the rest should be far from Eagles.
