A top NFF official has said Jose Peseiro has yet to sign a contract as Super Eagles coach just as the football federation are now reconsidering handing the job on a permanent basis to Augustine Eguavoen on the back of the team’s performance at the AFCON.
Peseiro was due to be in Cameroon as an observer before he would take over the Eagles for the final 2022 World Cup playoffs in March.
However, the 61-year-old Portuguese coach is not in Cameroon according to an unnamed NFF executive committee member because he has yet to sign a contract.
“He (Peseiro) is not in Cameroon because we have not signed a contract with him yet,” the official disclosed to ESPN.
“If he had signed a contract, he would have definitely been in Cameroon as planned.”
The official further said the thinking now is for Eguavoen to double up both as Super Eagles coach and NFF technical director.
“What we are even thinking of right now is to give Eguavoen the two jobs,” he revealed.
“The national team play about 10 matches a year, so during those times when they are not playing, he can carry on with his other responsibilities.”
