The insistence by Jose Peseiro that he should continue to earn a salary of $70,000-a-month was one of the major stumbling blocks over a new contract for the Super Eagles coach, officials have told SCORENigeria
The NFF made it very clear to the Portuguese coach that they could no longer afford the salary on his first contract and they would very much want him to take a pay cut.
“The NFF told the representatives of the coach they cannot pay him what he was on by the first contract,” a top official told SCORENigeria
“They offered a reduced salary of $50,000 a month, but they rejected this offer.”
It was further gathered that Peseiro’s representatives argued that since the first agreement was based on the 2023 AFCON, a delay of the tournament till January 2024 was not the doing of their client and as such the contract should subsist till the tournament is staged.
Peseiro’s initial deal stipulated that his contract will be extended should he qualify the country to the semifinal of the 2023 AFCON.
