A top official has spoken out about the now usual situation where the NFF technical director is lurking in the shadows to take over the Super Eagles in the event of a vacancy.
This comes on the heels of a SCORENigeria Exclusive that NFF technical director Augustine Eguavoen is again in line to take charge of the Super Eagles in the event that coach Eric Chelle is fired.
“Yes, it is often the case that the technical director takes over the team when there is a vacancy, but this is happening once too often in our own case,” the official opened up to SCORENigeria
“Should it now come to pass that Eguavoen replaces Eric Chelle, it would be the second time this is happening as he was also the man who took over the Super Eagles when Gernot Rohr was sacked just before the 2021 AFCON.
“This is very convenient for both the NFF and Eguavoen as the coach is widely regarded as ‘an establishment man’ who never wishes to rock the boat.”
The top official even went as far as alleging that the technical director has always positioned himself to be the stop-gap successor to a Super Eagles coach.
It would also be recalled that former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia dared his former international teammate Eguavoen to choose between being NFF technical director and being coach of the Super Eagles.
