Herve Renard may be a popular choice to be named the new Super Eagles coach, but a top official has told only SCORENigeria that he is not affordable.
SCORENigeria has already reported that Renard, who led both Zambia and Cote d’Ivoire to win the AFCON, is one of four foreign coaches shortlisted for the vacant Super Eagles top post.
The other shortlisted coaches are Eric Sekou Chelle, Tom Saintfiet and Steve McClaren.
SCORENigeria has also reported Renard’s agent has asked for a monthly salary of $180,000 for his client.
However, a top official, who is involved in the decision to appoint a new Super Eagles, has told SCORENigeria the Frenchman will be too expensive.
“Yes, Renard has asked for a salary of $180,000 a month, that’s too high. He will really be too expensive for us to hire,” he admitted.
“We still remember that the NFF had to ask (Jose) Peseiro to take a pay cut to $50,000 because they cannot afford to pay him $70,000.
“We have to be realistic and settle for a coach we can pay without much stress.”
