Rivers United are back on top of the NPFL standings after a home win over bottom club Kun Khalifat as close rivals Enugu Rangers slipped at Shooting Stars and Remo Stars continue to fight to stay up in the top league.
In a weekend where 34 goals were scored in 10 matches, Rivers United halted a four-match losing run to beat Kun Khalifat 4-2 at home to regain leadership of the competition.
They now have 55 points from 32 matches, a point ahead of Enugu Rangers, who fell 3-1 at Shooting Stars.
Shooting Stars are now fifth on the table with 50 points on the back of that home win over Rangers.
The team’s leading scorer Sodiq Ibrahim put them in front on 50 minutes for his ninth goal of the campaign.
Rangers then drew level in the 70th minute through Chidiebere Nwobodo.
However, late goals by Desmond Ojiettefin and Mustapha Adams sealed victory for 3SC.
Ikorodu City beat Warri Wolves 4-3 to climb to third place with 52 points.
Remo Stars boosted their survival hopes on the back of a 1-1 draw at El Kanemi Warriors.
They are now 17th on the table with 37 points and two points from safety.
Kano Pillars have been sucked back into the relegation battle after they fell 4-1 at Bayelsa United.
The Kano darlings are 16th and just a spot above the drop zone.
Wikki Tourist and Kwara United are the other teams in relegation trouble.
Both teams are on 36 points each as Wikki fell 2-0 at Niger Tornadoes, while Kwara United stopped visiting Nasarawa United by the odd goal.
