Captain Mikel Obi has backed the Super Eagles to now go all the way at the 2019 AFCON after the deposed defending champions Cameroon in the Round of 16.
Nigeria came from behind to beat the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 3-2 to set up a quarterfinal clash against South Africa Wednesday night in Cairo.
“Beating the defending champions has given us the confidence that we can go all the way,” said the former Chelsea star, who is nursing a knee injury in Egypt.
“It is a big match (vs South Africa), no doubt. But we know what we have to do and we will do just that.”
Coach Gernot Rohr said he was clear of the target on Wednesday night in Cairo.
“We are here to win,” he declared.
“It is not going to be easy, but surely if you have to win the Africa Cup, you will not expect to be faced with an easy match at this stage.
“We know ourselves from the qualifying campaign and it will be no holds-barred on Wednesday.
“It is not a matter of revenge, it is just about reaching the semi-finals.”
Both teams have clashed 13 times with Nigeria enjoying the dominance after they won six of these meetings, but it is six years ago since the Eagles beat the South Africans.
