Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Esporito Santo has expressed confidence that Taiwo Awoniyi has turned the corner after the accident that caused him to undergo emergency surgery.
Awoniyi crashed against the post in a Premier League clash against Leicester City Monday night.
He subsequently underwent “urgent” surgery for a serious abdominal injury.
The striker was placed in induced coma and a second surgery was done Wednesday.
“We are concerned but it is positive,” said the Forest boss.
“It has been very difficult because of the concern of the injury, the situation he went through.
“The information that we have is that at least five days he has to be there under observation, so that everything goes well.’
“I hope that next week he can join us and be around because he’s a wonderful biy, a wonderful boy, and this season has been so hard on him.”
