The Super Eagles will open their 2025 AFCON campaign tomorrow evening against Tanzania and close camp sources informed SCORENigeria that coach Eric Chelle does not plan any major surprises for his starting XI.
The former Mali coach has settled for his tried and trusted players from the failed 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign even though he drafted as many as five uncapped players to Morocco.
This means Stanley Nwabali will keep his place in goal with a defence of fullbacks Bright Osayi-Samuel, Zaidu Sanusi as well as Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi.
New captain Wilfred Ndidi will be the defensive midfielder playing alongside Alex Iwobi as the attacking option, while the wingers will be Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze.
Victor Osimhen will play alongside Jerome Akor in attack in Eric Chelle’s favoured 4-4-2 formation.
Likely Super Eagles Starting XI vs Tanzania (4-4-2)
Nwabali – Zaidu, Osayi-Samuel, Calvin Bassey, Ajayi – Ndidi (Captain), Iwobi, Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman – Osimhen, Akor
The same old story will be told nothing new, no surprises hence our players are well read, their tactical weaknesses of slow to get to the ball porous defence and easily beaten defence outline against counter attacks, no productive dead ball takers all will be evident except something different happen and I fear we should not expect too much cuz it’s the same personnel.
