Nigerians will not be impressed with anything short of the 2019 AFCON in Egypt, according to former international Garba Lawal.
The Super Eagles have won the AFCON thrice, in 1980, 1994 and 2013.
However, they failed to qualify for the last two editions of the tournament.
“Nigerians expect the AFCON trophy and nothing else will do,” NFF technical committee member Lawal told SCORENigeria
“It will be a failure if Gernot Rohr cannot lead the team to victory in Egypt after three years on the job.
“He has got all the support he has needed and Nigerians will not entertain any excuses from him again after what happened at the World Cup in Russia last year.”
Rohr has been working on his team employing a more offensive 3-5-2 formation in Egypt.
Lawal insisted the Eagles must perfect this system if they are to make a success of it.
“It’s a good formation, but you must have the players who can play this and they must also have the right attitude to play it,” he cautioned.
“The main pillars are the two wing-backs. Do we really have such players in Egypt?
“If we have not perfected it before the tournament, it may all go wrong for us.
The Eagles begin their AFCON campaign on Saturday against debutants Burundi in Alexandria.
