Nigerian-born Fukuoka of Japan striker JohnMary I Uzuegbunam could well make his debut for adopted country Cameroon Monday in a Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Nnobi, Anambra State, native was an unused sub in Friday’s 2-0 home win against Malawi.

The Shenzen of China striker, who is on loan at Fukuoka, is expected to finally make his long awaited debut for Cameroon, having been denied the chance last June when FIFA shifted the dates for the qualifiers for CAF zone due to Covid-19 concerns.

The 28-year-old power-playing striker had been chased by the Cameroon national team handlers since he started his impressive goal scoring business in his days in the Slovenian side Rudar, where he emerged top scorer.

He has also played in the cadet team for the Central African country and maintained his allegiance until he was called up for the Lions.

The towering striker told SCORENigeria he was delighted to be in coach Antonio Conceicao’s team, saying his invite was a long overdue.

This past week, another Nigerian-born player, Samuel Akinbinu debuted for Djibouti against African champions Algeria.
