Chairman of the FCT Football Association Adam Mouktar Mohammed has maintained that the right things ought to be done to halt the continued decline of football in Nigeria.
The national sport has lost its appeal with the country’s various teams struggling internationally, while the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has been riddled by controversies and disaffection.
“Our football has declined,” Mouktar Mohammed stated matter of factly.
“Our league doesn’t have a sponsor all because we haven’t been doing the right things.
“The league doesn’t have money to pay indemnities and so our football is suffering.
“As such investors and sponsors do not want to be associated with us.
“We must do more as well as tell ourselves the truth.”
He added: “There is a lack of commitment to develop the system and give everyone a fair chance to thrive in the game.
“One person alone can’t move our football forward, we will need to come together for things to change.”
Last week, Mouktar Mohammed put his weight behind Nigerian coaches, saying they only need support for them to outperform their foreign counterparts.
