The NFF assured Tuesday the Super Falcons, who crashed out of the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, will get their prize money from the tournament as well as other monies they are owed.
The Super Falcons were knocked out of the World Cup 4-2 on penalties after a goalless draw in extra-time by England in a Round of 16 clash in Brisbane Monday.
An official statement from the NFF to pay the team was in reaction to that of the world professional footballers (FIFPRO), which demanded the football federation pay the players what they are owed.
“The nation’s football-governing body stated that it has no issues with the players; it had assured them before the World Cup that they would be paid the couple of friendly matches and qualifying matches for which they were being owed appearance fees and bonuses respectively,” part of the NFF statement read.
“It pledged to pay the money once the World Cup money is paid.”
The team threatened to embark on a pay strike days leading to the kick-off of the World Cup last month.
The players are guaranteed $60,000 each for reaching the Round of 16 of the World Cup besides win bonus and allowances for qualifying matches yet to be paid by the NFF.
