It first started as a rumour before it was finally confirmed officially at a meeting between the NFF president Ibrahim Gusau and the Super Eagles – the country’s team will be paid 10% of the bonuses and allowances they have not been paid some of which date as far as 2020.
As first reported by SCORENigeria, the Super Eagles confronted the NFF president over their outstanding monies after a 2025 AFCON qualifier against Benin in Abidjan last month.
Gusau told the players that the NFF will pay them 10% of what they are owed, while assuring them of payment soon.
A source told SCORENigeria that since that meeting, the Super Eagles have begun asking questions why they are now being offered a mere 10% of what is due to them especially as the Federal Government released a total of 17 Billion Naira to the NFF to clear the debts.
The Flying Eagles, Golden Eaglets and the Falconets are the other national teams who were covered in this bailout fund generously approved by President Bola Tinubu earlier this year.
It was understood that Super Eagles have been unhappy with captain Ahmed Musa for not pushing for these outstanding payments.
He has been accused of not carrying them along on discussions with the NFF leadership and often siding with the officials and not the players in respect of these monies.
Anti-corruption agency EFCC is now investigating the claims and counter claims concerning this bailout fund.
