Coach of the Mambas of Mozambique, Chiquinho Conde, has boasted his team will be up to it against star-studded Super Eagles later tonight when both teams battle for a place in the quarterfinal of the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
Mozambique will play for the first time in the knockout rounds of the continental competition on the back of a first-ever group stage victory that propelled them to finish as one of the third best teams going into the Round of 16.
“Mozambique have shown that we have a strong team,” said the former international star.
“Against Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroon, we failed in the details, but now at this stage it is kill-kill.
“Nigerians are favourites to win the match, but let us face the game with humility, tranquility, and a lot of responsibility.
“We have come to this Round of 16 stage with respect, and now we’re going to show what we can do.”
The Mambas have yet to beat Nigeria in five previous meetings, but in the knockout rounds a moment of brilliance could define an entire campaign.
Kick-off tonight in Fes is 8pm.
